Writing Assist is an integral aspect of Galaxy AI, built as a cross-app system for smart writing assistance. This allows users to write effectively and with assurance across multiple Galaxy apps, also empowering third-party contexts through popups and drag interactions.

Problem : Causing inconsistent UX and lack of feature awareness.  Previously, functions were scattered across the internet, notes, and keyboards, causing user confusion. We reduced this by consolidating these features into a unified writing assist. My team and I focused on finding ways to integrate them, ensuring the assist can be used wherever there is text, easily.

Solution : Developed Writing Assist to bring clarity support across Galaxy apps. With updated UX, we delivered a seamless and intuitive writing flow that works consistently across all text inputs—even in third-party environments via text drag and contextual popups.

delivering a consistent and cohesive reading and writing experience across devices—even within third-party environments.

1 Before One UI 7.0, text-based AI features were scattered across different apps with inconsistent entry points. We unified them into a single, intuitive access point: by selecting text and tapping the Galaxy AI “four-star” icon, users open the Writing Assist sheet—without disruptive modals or full-page transitions. From there, users can choose from three clearly categorized functions within the same context.

2 The Writing menu panel was also redesigned as part of the Galaxy AI Integration project. We transitioned from a fragmented layout to the One UI 7.0 intelligence interface, introducing a more structured, categorized menu. Even with additional functions added, the new layout enhances clarity and discoverability.

3 Once processing is complete, users can explore alternative results by swiping horizontally, eliminating the need to reinitiate the action. They can also tap the back button to reprocess the same sentence with a different function—all within a single, consistent sheet, avoiding any navigation away from the original context.

When generating new text using the Composer feature, the layout mirrors the results screen for consistency. Since it involves user input, we positioned the Generate button and key options at the bottom. The button becomes active only after the user types a prompt—guiding their workflow naturally and preventing empty submissions.

4 To support multi-device usage, Writing Assist was also optimized for larger screens. Instead of occupying the entire display, it appears as a movable floating sheet from the trigger point, minimizing obstruction and enabling simultaneous background content viewing—particularly useful for tablet and foldable experiences.
